Terrier Audiobook Review...

Hundreds of years before Alanna first drew her sword in Tamora Pierce’s memorable debut, Alanna: The First Adventure, Tortall had a heroine named Beka Cooper–a fierce young woman who fights crime in a world of magic. This is the beginning of her story, her legend, and her legacy. . . .

Beka Cooper is a rookie with the law-enforcing Provost’s Guard, commonly known as “the Provost’s Dogs.” To the surprise of both the veteran “Dogs” and her fellow “puppies,” Beka requests duty in the Lower City. The Lower City is a tough beat. But it’s also where Beka was born, and she’s comfortable there.
Beka gets her wish. She’s assigned to work with Mattes and Clary, famed veterans among the Provost’s Dogs, and they don’t know that Beka has something unique to offer. Beka is a good listener. So good, in fact, that she hears things that Mattes and Clary never could–information that is passed in murmurs when flocks of pigeons gather . . . murmurs that are the words of the dead. And the ranks of the dead will be growing if the Dogs can’t stop a crime wave the likes of which has never been seen. Luckily for the people of the Lower City, the new puppy is a true terrier!

REVIEW!

I absolutely love Tamora Pierce and have read just about everything she has written.  However when it came to Beka Cooper’s books I had only read the first 1 and a half books.  When I found them in audiobook through my local library I snatched them up.

Terrier is the first book in the series and if you are reading Tamora’s books in order by time it is the first book there too.  This book follows Rebekah Cooper as she starts her journey as a Dog of the Provost Guard.  She meets new friends, has lots of fun informants and two Trainers who have never had a Puppy to train before.  There is a lot to learn about Reka and all of her friends but you will enjoy every moment of it.  Beka has a unique training year as she brings down a major bad guy or two.

If you haven’t picked up a Tamora Pierce book then you are absolutely missing out.  Now this was a reread as it’s been a while since I read the first couple and I wanted to finish the series.  Needless to say I loved it even more now than I did the first time I read it.  I love the reader of this audiobook as well because she makes it entertaining as she reads by changing her voice slightly with each character.  The author has made it so you don’t want to stop reading ever.  The characters are well written.  The plot is unique and different.  The flow and pace work well together and with the rest of the book as well.

If you haven’t read it I highly recommend every book she has written ever.  I plan to continue reading the books in time period order so you will see a lot of books by Tamora posted on here over the next while.  I look forward to more books by this author, especially if they fall the land of Tortall.
