It’s outlined in muscle and is a golden tan. Holy shit he has lower back dimples too. My eyes skim along his bare skin, wishing it were my hands instead. My hands strangle themselves, my mouth parting to allow the labored breathing to pass.

REVIEW!!!!

So this is my first book by Anna Banks and it has been sitting on my kindle for who knows how long.  What the heck?

 

Carly is a high school student who lives with her brother after their parents were deported.  One night while at work she rescues her favorite customer from somebody holding a gun on him.  From then on she and the kid holding the gun become so much more.  She wants nothing more than to get her family back to the States but could her new relationship threaten that?  Can she save her family?  Can she save herself?  Can she save her relationships?

 

I absolutely loved this book.  I felt for the characters and could easily place myself in their place.  I felt like I was experiencing what they were experiencing.  I loved the plot of this book as well.  A lot of people these days don’t know the struggles some families go through in order to be together and this book though fiction threw you into the lives of a family doing just that.  I loved all the twists and turns in this book because you never know what is going to happen next.  I didn’t want the book to end. 

 

I want to know if Carly makes it to college.  What happens with Uncle Cletus?  I have so many questions but it doesn’t end on a cliffhanger.  I just want to know what happens to these characters.  Maybe a sequel should be written?!?!?!?!?!?

Going Long Review...

They fell in love in high school and found their way back to one another despite the odds. But can first loves really be forever? For Reed Johnson, the dream was always football. REVIEW!!!

So I read book one in this series in either late 2015 or early 2016 before I got bombarded by review tours again.  I loved that book so now that I am taking a small hiatus from review tours I would read book two.  I didn’t remember much about the first book but I remembered the basics.

 

Reed and Nolan are struggling in this book.  With the long distance relationship things are blown out of proportion and Nolan slumps into a deeper and deeper depression.  Reed finally figures out how stupid he has been and tries to fix things.  Does he figure it out in time?  Does Reed’s mother finally make an effort?  Who ends up married in the end?  Do they get a second change to make things right?

 

I actually cried randomly through out this book.  I am not a crier and it is a rare occasion when a book drives me to tears like this one did.  I felt like the things in this book were actually happening to me.  I was Nolan, I felt her pain and her insecurity with the situations thrown at her.  This book covered some deeper and more sensitive topics that I have rarely come across in a book.  I loved watching the characters figure out what they wanted and who they were.  Even more I loved watching them grow back together in the end.  No matter what life threw at them and how stupid they were they were strong enough to over come it all.

 

I hope to one day read more books by this author.  She has an amazing writing style.  She is also a great story teller.  I did hit a few spots where the book lagged but all in all it was an amazing book and I didn’t want to stop reading!

“But there's something amazing about you and I need to know more. Your light, your energy, it's really awesome. And I know you've been through a lot and you're not looking for anything serious and I get that. But I want you to know I'd like to actually date you, and be your friend. She pulls her hands away from mine. “Rhys, this is not how this is going to work.”

“Why not?” I ask, “Do you not enjoy spending time with me? Can you not see us being friends? I mean we have a lot in common.” This may be a good time to play the gallery card. “We're both artists, we're both lonely and we're both trying to make our way in this crazy world. Maybe it's not such a bad idea to help each other along.”

She stands up. “No, I have friends, I'm not lonely and I don't even really like you.”

I try not to let it sting; I remind myself that its the hurt talking, it's my wounded bird trying to fly away scared. “Not at all?”

There's remorse in her eyes and I'm not sure why, I hope it's because she realizes that what she's saying could really hurt. She inhales a breath, “Look, I told you my life is complicated right now and I don't need any more complications. You aren't supposed to be complicated. You are supposed to be fun and easy, not emotional or painful. If you can't be fun and easy, then I'm done.” She turns toward the door.

“Wren, please wait.” I reach for her hand. “I know you don't want a relationship and I get that. It isn't what I'm asking for, I'm just asking for us to be friends.”

“I don't fuck my friends.” She spits the words.

“I know what you've been through—” She cuts me off.

“You don't know shit. You have no idea what I've been through in my life.” She shakes her head in anger.

“I want to.” I say it quietly and it gives her pause.

“Yeah, you're making way too much of this. You've got to go. I'm sorry that Boone and Hunter lured you up here where you didn't belong. You don't belong in this part of my life, not now, not ever. And since you can't seem to get that through your head, you're done. Don't call, don't text, don't anything.” She goes through the door and gives it a good hard slam.

I smile even though this didn't go as I hoped. But that's okay, at least she said she was sorry, right?

Cannon is a guy who attracts all the wrong girls and it has cost him to lose his apartment.  So when her sister suggests she move in with her best friend he figures why not, even knowing that there are feelings there.  Paige is sure she can handle living with her best friends brother without falling in love with him.  But when you throw sex into the mix what could possibly go wrong?  Throw in some crazy stalker exes and you can just imagine.  Can these two come clean with each other about how they feel?  Can they become more than just roommates?  Will his sister be okay with it?

 

So while I think the plot of this book is kind of played out for me…I have read a lot of books with this plot theme lately…it was extremely well written and I was completely sucked into it.  I truly loved the characters and felt like I was a part of their world.  There were fun chinks and twists throughout the book that made it entertaining.  The flow and pace were great and it was a quick read for me.  The author has a fun and dynamic writing style.

 

I would totally recommend this book.  It is full of fun and interesting people.  I look forward to reading more books by Kendall.  She is one of those authors that I fell in love with after the first book I read.  She is one of the authors I try to get all of the books I can for.

I struggled with this book when I first read it but when I restarted it when I was in a different frame of mind I flew through it.  I should never try reading immediately after finishing a book that completely tore me apart.

Anyways, Lani is back in town after her grandmothers death and while she decides to stay until her sister has her baby things change.  She is hired to make Brett, the reason she left in the first place, look like a decent person.  Will all of their truths come out?  Will they patch up a relationship they could have been in all along?  Will they kiss and make-up?

I love Emma's writing.  She is among my favorite authors.  This book does start out kind of slow but it ends with a bang.  The characters were SO fun to get to know.  Lani went from being the shy and geeky girl in high school to a strong and independent woman.  Brett didn't change at heart just in outside actions.  I loved watching them together and learning about their past and present.  The plot was so fun and interesting.

Everything about this book was fantastic.  I know I say this a lot but if you have not read an Emma Hart book they you really should.  Start anywhere because I haven't found one that I don't like yet!!

Adam had a bad childhood which led him to enlist in the Marines at a young age.  Now he’s back and trying to pull his family back together that is until he meets Taylor.  Taylor has been in a bad relationship for a while until the night she meets Adam and finds out that her boyfriend is cheating on her but won’t admit it.  Are these two pulled together by fate?  Will they open up to each other about the things of their pasts?  Will everything work out for the best?

 

So this book has been sitting on my kindle waiting to be read for a long time.  I can’t believe I didn’t read it sooner.  So the characters are well written and easy to relate too.  The plot is extremely well thought out and it is difficult to figure out where the story will go until the end.  The pace seemed a little slow but it all flowed well.  I absolutely loved the authors writing style as well.

 

I can’t wait to read more of this authors work.  She was able to pull me into a world that I felt kind of at home in.  We all have things in our pasts that we can’t let go of.  Meeting that one special person can help us open up and let go of those miserable moments and cling to the future.  I have been where these characters have been…maybe not the same exact situations but the feeling…and had somebody who was able to help me out while I helped them.  We still help each other out of those miserable spots all the time.   Without them in my life I wouldn’t be where I am today, so I owe them everything!

While I truly enjoyed these characters I wasn’t enthralled by the book itself.  The plot was decent but it felt kind of played out to me.  I feel like every book I’ve read lately has been similar to this plot line.  Would I read it again most definitely when I get a break from this plot line for a bit.  The flow worked well with the book and the pace well I thought it was a bit slow as well. 

My feelings about this book could also because it is that stressful time of year where things are moving non-stop and you barely have time to think.  While I was not completely thrilled by this book that does not mean that I would not recommend it.  Not everybody has the same taste in books so even if I didn’t like a book I would still recommend it.  I look forward to a reread when I am in a different mindset.

My normally quiet nature seemed to take a backseat when it came to this guy. He made me angry, flustered, and… something else I couldn’t put my finger on.

Annoyed maybe? 

No, that wasn’t it. 

“What is your problem?” I blurted out, chasing behind him.

“My problem?” he asked, spinning around to face me.

Suddenly, he was too close. I could feel his breath on my face, his presence looming over me.

I took a step back.

He seemed to notice the unease settle around me, and a bit of the edge he carried chipped away.

His next words were said with a slightly softer quality. “Look, maybe we got off on the wrong foot. I didn’t mean to sound so harsh, but if the store doesn’t do well, it’s on me. My dad thinks it’s a waste of time.”

“And you don’t?”

I didn’t know what a rich, popular kid wanted with an old bookstore, but I kept my mouth shut.

He shrugged. “We have nothing in this crummy town, not even a movie theater. Last month, I wanted to see the new Marvel movie, and my friends and I had to drive thirty minutes away just to see it.”

“Haven’t you ever heard of Netflix?” I asked.

“It’s not the same as seeing it on the big screen.”

“I wouldn’t know,” I replied.

“What?” He grinned. “You’ve never been to a movie?”

The way he said it was meant as a joke, but all laughter died when I shook my head.

“Seriously?”

“I mean, I’ve watched several on TV but never at a theater,” I answered, not able to meet his stare.

“I thought you were from the city.”

My eyes flew up to his.

“Oh, so you really did think you were invisible. That doesn’t work around here, Mittens.”

My brows furrowed as I tried to figure out what he meant until he pointed to my gloves.

Mittens.

 Cute.

 “My name is Willow,” I corrected.

Sam just kept smiling.

“Word of advice, Mittens. The less you try to be invisible, the less interested people will be.”

I let out a heavy sigh, snatching the remainder of the books from the counter.

As he’d reminded me earlier, I wasn’t being paid to mess around.

And I sure as hell didn’t need life lessons from an over privileged daddy’s boy.

I hated this place.
