Operation Prom Date Review...

Operation Prom Date (Tactics in Dating #1)
by Cindi Madsen
Publication Date: March 13, 2017
Publisher: Entangled Teen Crush

Kate ships tons of fictional couples, but IRL her OTP is her and Mick, the hot quarterback she’s crushed on since, like, forever. With only one semester left of senior year, it’s now or never if she wants to land him in time for prom. Since she’s flirtationally challenged, she enlists Cooper Callihan, the guy who turned popular seemingly overnight but who used to be a good friend.

Cooper lives and breathes rowing, but his partner just broke his wrist. When he remembers Kate’s good with a set of oars, he strikes a deal: help him train, and he’ll make sure her crush notices her. Only he didn’t know how addicting spending time with her would be. Or how the more successful the Operation is, the more jealousy he experiences.

The mission has been set. The troops have their marching orders. But what if the target is the wrong guy all along?

EXCERPT:

Cooper glanced at the ducks. “Do you ship them?”
“Not that I have to, because they’re clearly already in love, but yes. I hope they have a very happy duck life and have lots of beautiful duck children.”
“I think the word you’re searching for is ducklings, because children are a human thing. Duck children sounds like a mutant science experiment gone wrong.”
“Ugh, you drive me crazy!” I shoved him, and he barely caught his balance.
“I just thought a math girl would be more into facts, is all.”
I moved to shove him again, and he caught my arm. The boat rocked, and I fell into Cooper, my hands braced against his chest. Despite trying not to think about it, my hands noticed how firm it was. I also caught a whiff of woodsy cologne, and there was something intoxicating about the way it mixed in with the fresh air and water scent.
“Careful,” Cooper warned, his deep voice vibrating against my palms. “You’re about to send us both into the water.”
“I don’t want to be careful.” I straightened. “I love the lake, and I want to enjoy my time out here. I’m glad you love rowing and all, but sometimes you’ve got to slow down for a moment and appreciate it.” I squatted next to the side, curving my hands around the edge of the wooden boat, and peered into the water. Underneath the surface, a couple of fish darted back and forth. “There’s an entire life under there and you’re missing it.”
Cooper knelt next to me, his thigh pressed against mine, and warmth wound through me. “I get what you’re saying,” he said. “No more being so serious.”
“Seriously.” In one fluid motion, I scooped up a handful of water and launched it at him.
His jaw dropped. He blinked at me through wet lashes, and then he lunged. With a squeal, I scrambled backward, attempting to flee—I’m not sure where, but I supposed there was something to be said for trying.
Unfortunately Cooper was too fast. He launched a spray of water at me and all I could do was throw my hands in front of me to try to block another attack. The boat rocked as I attempted to stand, and I flung out my arms, trying to brace myself on something.
Strong hands caught me around the waist. I gripped Cooper’s wrists, clinging on for dear life. The rocking of the boat calmed, but I couldn’t say the same for my heart rate. Instead of coming back down, it tripped over its beats, each one faster than the next.
The weirdo attraction vibes caught me off guard and overwhelmed me, so I did the only thing I could think of. I rocked the boat again, trying to get the teasing vibe back. Only I overdid it, my attempt to turn the tides apparently endowing me with super strength.
I bumped into him, and he tipped, his hands flailing now. “I’m sorry, I—”
He reached out and caught hold of my wrist, and then we both went tumbling over the side, into the icy cold water.

REVIEW!!!!

This book has a very Pretty in Pink feel to it with maybe a little bit of Sixteen Candles mixed in there.  It definitely has a John Hughes feel to it and I could totally see it as a movie.
What happens when the guy that you like isn’t the guy you are meant to end up with?  What happens when the guy helping you get the guy you want becomes so much more?  What happens when you have two guys to choose between as a prom date?  This is the dilemma Kate has thrust upon her.  But are Cooper’s feelings a shock to him as well?
Wow, I flew through this book.  Such a great read.  I have been in a slight reading slump and this book began to pull me out of that slump.  I adored the plot and the characters.  The authors writing style is just amazing.  I honestly didn’t have a single issue with this book.  I absolutely adored it.
I will be keeping my eyes open for more books by this amazing author.  I hope all of her books have that same Hughes-esk feel to them because it has made for an amazing book.
5 stars!

Cupboards bang as they open and close, followed by the clattering of cutlery and chinking of glasses.
“Well, I’m not exactly a connoisseur where wine is concerned!” I shout back. “But Mum always says keep red at room temperature and everything else shove in the fridge. Anything cold is fine by me.”
He returns a few minutes later with what looks like a large bottle of rosé and two not particularly clean glasses.
“Is this your way of getting me drunk and in the mood?”
I lift my eyes from the table as he unscrews the lid and passes me the bottle to pour. He sits at my side, squeezing my thigh between his fingers.
“You telling me I need to get you drunk to get you in the mood?” he whispers.
I giggle as he squeezes just that little bit tighter.
“Maybe it’s you who needs the drink to get you in the mood,” I add, gazing up at him under my eyes.
Now my hands are under the table and I’m squeezing the inside of his thigh; he doesn’t flinch in the way I did but takes my hand, very slowly running my fingers up the leg of his denim jeans. Then quite suddenly our hands stop. I can feel his hardness beneath my palm; I can feel as it grows. I gasp, holding my breath. I’m tingling inside. Surely, he must be able to feel my hand trembling as he inches his pelvis up into my tightening grasp.
“Now,” he murmurs, leaning closer to me, so close that his lips rest softly against my ear. “Tell me I need a drink to get in the mood,” he says, circling his fingers around my wrist, then very slowly moving my arm backwards and forwards.

It’s time to bring it full circle. Back to a tropical paradise. Back to find out if we can still make this work.

I’m not willing to give her up, but to save us, I have to risk everything.

#Selfie Review...

It’s all about the #Selfie.

She was the one girl I never wanted.

Until I had her.

One night.

One mistake.

Something we both wanted to forget.

I got rid of the proof. The one piece of evidence that could remind us both.

At least, I thought I did.

When it shows up on the school Buzzfeed, rumors fly. Friendships are tested and the feels get real.

I don’t do relationships. I don’t open my heart.

Especially for a girl everyone knows I hate.

What happens during spring break, stays in spring break.

Until it follows you home.

~~~~****~~~~****~~~~
REVIEW!!!
We all know Braedon and Ivy right?!?!  Well this is the start of their story.
I thought nobody could be better than Romeo but I think Braedon has beat him in this book.  I mean swoon worthy beyond belief.  Then there is snarky and fighting Ivy.  These two together are a just amazing to watch.
In this book we start with spring break.  We watch the clash of these two as they fight their feelings after a one night stand.  We get to know another side of Braedon as we find out why he is so protective over both girls.  Oh and who could forget that you find out who #BuzzBoss is.  Secrets are revealed.  Truths come out.  Relationships start and friendships end.
This series could end with this book and I would have wanted more but I would have been content with that ending.  See this book has put me in a reading slump.  It was so good that I can't seem to let the story go.  Not even to move onto the next book.  It took me two weeks to write this review because I had no idea how to put what I thought into words.
I have started the next book however it has been a struggle.  Although I have to say the best part of this entire book is when Trent makes a confession to Ivy at the bonfire.  I will not give anything more than that away.  If you've read it then you know what I'm talking about but if you haven't then you better start reading the series so you can get to this book and find out what I'm talking about!
Needless to say it deserves so much more but it gets 5 SELFIE stars!
#PLAYER Review...
Players gotta play. Hate is like a poison. It contaminates everything. So does doubt. Even though I deny what I overheard, even though I insist it isn't true, the seed of doubt has been planted. I can't help but be tormented with the endless what-if's that have taken over our lives. Romeo and I were happy in love. The future stretched before us brighter than any star in the darkest sky. Now everything is broken. Literally broken. Romeo's entire career is at stake, my entire future is threatened... and my past? It's coming back to haunt me. To haunt us. Romeo says we're in this together and right now the only sure thing is us. But how far can a love so new be pushed? The lengths we will have to go to save each other puts everything at risk. Romeo is a #player but how much of the game can one person play?
~~~~****~~~~****~~~~

REVIEW!!!

This book is a whirlwind of emotion and drama.  Romeo and Rimmel's story continues in this wonderful book.  I have been trying to take this series slow reading a book a month and so far it is making each book even more suspenseful for me because I need to know what happens next.

Now in this book a lot happens to Romeo and Rimmel.  First, they deal with the aftermath of Zach and wonder what will happen with both of their career's.  They are also dealing with some of Rimmel's family issues.  When all the truth's come out will these two fall apart or stick it out together?

I have truly enjoyed watching these characters grow as the series continues and I can't wait to see how they continue to grow.  Cambria has created a world that you can't let go of.  She has created a series you don't ever want to end.  There are moments that ebb and wane but it all flows and moves extremely well.

I look forward to continuing this series and finding out what happens.  The story gets better with every book!  If I could give this an infinite rating I would but it is a five star system so:

5 PLAYING STARS!!!

Stealing Snow Audio Book Review...

From Danielle Paige, the New York Times best-selling author of Dorothy Must Die, comes a reimagining of "The Snow Queen" fairy tale.

Seventeen-year-old Snow has spent the majority of her life within the walls of the Whittaker Institute, a high-security mental hospital in upstate New York. Deep down she knows she's not crazy and doesn't belong there. When she meets a mysterious, handsome new orderly and dreams about a strange twisted tree, she realizes she must escape and figure out who she really is.

Using her trusting friend, Bale, as a distraction, Snow breaks free and races into the nearby woods. Suddenly everything isn't what it seems, the line between reality and fantasy begins to blur, and she finds herself in icy Algid - her true home - with witches, thieves, and a strangely alluring boy named Kai, none of whom she's sure she can trust. As secret after secret is revealed, Snow discovers that she is on the run from a royal lineage she's destined to inherit, a father more powerful and ruthless than she could have imagined, and choices of the heart that could change the fate of everything...including Snow's return to the world she once knew.

This breathtaking first volume begins the story of how Snow becomes a villain, a queen, and ultimately a hero.

~~~~****~~~~****~~~~
REVIEW!!!
I listened to this in audio book format and it took me a while because I got halfway through the book and hit a reading slump where it was really hard for me to listen to any books!  I was able to pick right back up where I left off without skipping a beat.
While I enjoyed the plot and the characters immensely I did have some issues with a few other things.  It did seem to flow well as a story but the pace kind of lagged in the beginning.  Also I had issues listening for long periods of time because the narrators voice annoyed me.  I could only listen for 30 minute periods when I was in the car because of this.
This was my first book by Danielle Paige and I can truly say that I look forward to reading more because she really is a good author.  I have wanted to read her other series since I saw it on the shelf at the library but haven’t had the time as of yet.  Maybe I will try to grab them in audio book format.
EXCERPT:
Munich
22 August 1936
Eva’s eyes were alight as she grabbed my hand and tugged me toward the counter in Balin’s shop. “I’m so happy you are here to see this!”
Resting on top was a portrait in a gilt-colored frame. The face gazing back over the subject’s left shoulder was meant to be hers. That much I knew.
I could feel how eager she was for my response as I struggled for words. “Ah … from the photo. The one you gave to,” I hesitated before adding, “the artist.”
“You remember!” Her expression was like an adoring mother’s as she gazed at it. “He kept his promise. He can only get to Munich for a day or so, sometimes not for weeks. I wanted it framed in time for his return.”
Her tone sobered then. “He’ll have no time for drawing now.”
Hardly a sacrifice, I couldn’t help thinking. This was clearly no artist; at least no portrait painter. While he’d captured Eva’s sparkling eyes and satiny hair with technical precision, the overall image seemed to suppress her very vitality. The clumsy composition also made her face appear superimposed, as though on a mannequin or statue. Or on someone else’s body. The illegible signature looked like a tattoo scrawled on her shoulder. Why would he place it there, so visibly?
Surely her photographer’s eye saw how mediocre this was?
But Eva seemed enthralled, as though grateful simply for its existence. What could one possibly say about a job this unworthy of her? I couldn’t help wondering whether the man was, too.
She finalized plans for the portrait’s delivery then linked her arm in mine as we left the shop and crossed the slender strip of park to the hotel. We were seated in the spacious comfort of the elegant salon, our petite table and overstuffed chairs directly beneath an enormous dome of stained glass. We ordered quickly—boiled egg and ham with rolls, butter, and marmalade for me, a fruit compote for Eva—and asked that the coffee be served first.
“Tell me your news,” she urged. “You’ve come all the way from Berlin?”
“Yes, to surprise my aunt, for her birthday. But the surprise seems to be on me.”
“Frau Vogel is the Aunt Paula you told me about?”
“Now you’re the one with a good memory,” I smiled. “I hope I can catch up with her this afternoon.”
“Does she live on Widenmayer Strasse, near the river?”
“You know each other?”
“My sister and I lived in her building, until we moved into my house this year. Your aunt was our favorite neighbor, so warm and friendly. Just like you!”
“I can’t believe you know each other!” I said. “I’m very fond of her. She’s my godmother, and always feels more like my big sister than my aunt.”
“She’s been so kind,” Eva said. “It was our first time living away from home, you see. I brought the portrait to Herr Balin’s so that she could do the framing. I wanted her special touch to be a part of it.”
I leaned in close to meet her eyes. “I’ve never had the chance to tell you how much I love the photos you took of me—the special touch that you brought to them.”
Her gaze dropped demurely when she thanked me. Her features brightened as she remembered, “There was a man,” then stopped, as though catching herself.
“That’s right.”
“I don’t mean to pry.”
“No, no,” I assured.
Did etiquette now dictate we be more guarded in our sharing? I hoped not. Eva was always so easy to talk to. “Now, there’s another man,” I smiled. “He likes the photos very much, too.”
“Ah!” she chuckled. “Then they’ve served you very well!”
“But more important to me is that I liked them. I’m forever grateful you gave me that gift, especially at that time.”
“It was my pleasure. It’s important to see ourselves as others do, as the men do, certainly. That’s why the portrait means so much to me.”
Can you even recognize yourself in it? I wondered.
“He says it will show me as I was when we met, an ordinary girl—before destiny brought us together. He wants me to remain that girl.”
I’ll bet he does. I felt rising impatience I had to find a way to vanquish.
“Nothing about you is ordinary,” I declared.
Eva blinked back at me.
“You’ve always struck me as quite extraordinary. You certainly looked that way the last time I saw you. Like a film star.”
She frowned, confused. “In the photo studio?”
“No, in Berlin.” I instantly had doubts about bringing this up. “At the Adlon Hotel.”
“The Adlon?” For a moment, her expression was guarded. Then her features showed recollection. “Ah, during the Olympics.”
“Yes, the last day. You were with someone, in the lobby. I wanted so much to come over to greet you.”
Eva’s gentle eyes turned deep gray.
“It was very hard not to,” I said. “I felt terrible. But you were both occupied with something—it seemed best not to interrupt.”
She reached across the table for my hand. “You are always so thoughtful. Just like your aunt. You understand exactly.” She opened the leather clutch purse on her lap, drew out a silver cigarette case and offered me a smoke. “There were plans. Ones I was really looking forward to. But then,” she paused to light my cigarette, then her own, “well, things worked out differently. It was a difficult day.”
“You looked so beautiful.” And so sad, my thoughts added.
“Even when I was unhappy?”
“Absolutely. We should all look that good under duress.”
She adjusted her diminutive cup in its saucer. “Well, thank you. It helps to know one can make a good appearance, whatever the circumstances.”
REVIEW:
I enjoyed the general plot of this book.  It was well thought out and it was unique.  I enjoyed the characters as well.  They were dynamic and real.  I did have a slight issue with the pace.  The author needed something to pick up the pace because I felt like it too forever to get into the plot of this book.  The flow also needed just a little bit of work but it wasn’t too bad.
All in all it was a great historical fiction book that with a little bit of work could become an AMAZING book.  I am a fan of historical fiction and learning about a different period of time in this way.  This book taught me a few things about the war and Hitler that I had not known before.  If you love Historical Fiction or WWII era books then you should look into this book.  I would recommend this book strictly because of it’s content and general plot.
Praise for Munich Girl by Phyllis Edgerly Ring
“I was drawn in by Phyllis Ring's economical and expressive language. Then the story took over! Protagonist Anna Dahlberg must face the emotional fallout from a traumatic plane crash, while simultaneously uncovering the first clues in a shocking generational mystery involving key players in the Third Reich. Everything's complicated by a new romance that may help her overcome the past and find her true inner strength. But is it real? Love can manifest itself in enigmatic--and unexpected--ways.”- Elizabeth Sims, author and contributing editor at Writer's Digestmagazine
“... fresh perspective of German women at opposing ends of the warring spectrum ... a beautiful story of enduring friendship and the lengths people will go to for love.”- The Stellar Review
“So persuasive is this novel that, before I could believe it was in fact a piece of fiction, I contacted the author and asked where she did her research and where she came up with the idea.”-Leslie Handler, The Philadelphia Inquirer
“This book weaves real life with fiction beautifully and makes you want to know more about the cast of characters. This is a book that you may have a hard time remembering it is fiction as you turn the pages. That's how well the author brings her characters to life. This book was stunning. I highly recommend it to anyone that loves this time period.”-A Chick Who Reads
“The Munich Girl by Phyllis Edgerly Ring is an elegant historical fiction novel of Eva Braun. Besides being Adolph Hitler’s mistress (and short-lived wife) little is known about this woman in history.  Peggy’s diary entries were applied seamlessly blending past with the present. I yearned to enter the streets of 1940s Germany and discover the meaning behind a simple portrait and view the forging of an unlikely friendship. Phyllis Edgerly Ring has written a superbly researched novel of a historical figure whose’ story is impeccably told.”-Whitney, First Impression Reviews
