I sneered. "What did you do?"

He heaved a heavy sigh. "You insist on pushing me away, so I've decided I can't be entirely friendly with you. You won't push me out of your life. It's too dangerous."

"You don't care about my safety." I tried to sit up.

"I do. More than you can imagine." Roman reached to help me, but I shoved his hands away. He speared me with a look that wasn't friendly and forced my hands down by my sides. Roman gently lifted me into a sitting position and settled the blanket across my lap.

My heart raced wildly as we stared each other down. I couldn't believe he was asserting his dominance over me and I was scared.

"You've nothing to fear from me," Roman assured, making no attempts to hide that he'd just been in my head. "I would never hurt you, but there are things you don't understand that you will accept with time. Laied is more determined to get what you owe him then ever before and Xiomara will not give up either. Not now. The only way I could spare your life was to take you on as my charge. You belong to me now."

LeKrista Scott - 25 and in a committed relationship, even if things are a little rocky with everything she’s dealing with. Like Vampires. And the fact that she’s a powerful mage. She has trouble controlling her magic because of a darkness that lurks deep inside her, made stronger by vampires.

Pierce Wisely - LeKrista’s boyfriend. They’ve been together for six years. He has supernatural qualities, but can’t tell LK what he is until after they consummate their marriage...if they ever get to.

Roman - 2000 year old vampire. He was born during the Roman Empire and served as a Centurion. He was one of the men who crucified Jesus. Cursed for all eternity to be a vampire, he is one of the oldest still living. And one of the strongest.

Hunted is a little darker than Scorned was, I think. So, dark, kind of heavy music? Not heavy metal, though. I don’t mean that. Lot’s of Skillet and similar music.

So this is book 2 in the LeKrista Scott series and while I loved book 1 I wasn't quite as into this book. There was just so much going on that you need to remember and I wound up kind of confused. I will admit I had 3 other books going at the same time which didn't help. This was a good continuation to the story and I can't wait to read more of LeKrista's story because while this one had me slightly confused and frustrated it was still absolutely amazing and well worth the read.
