Becoming a legend is not easy, as young Alanna of Trebond discovers when she disguises herself as a boy and begins training to be a knight. Alanna's skills and stubbornness help her befriend Prince Jonathan but alienate his evil uncle, Duke Roger. Filled with swords and sorcery, adventure and intrigue, good and evil, this book is a rousing introduction to the intensely satisfying story of Alanna.
So this is the FIRST book in the Songs of the Lioness Quartet and the FOURTH book in the Tortall series (if you are reading the Tortall series in chronological order). It is also the last one you will see on here for a while because I have to find the next one in the series (preferably in audio book) or time to read them.
Anyways, this picks up exactly where the epilogue of Mastiff left off. Alanna and her twin brother Thom are about to be sent off to the convent and to be trained as a knight. Alanna is to become a lady at the convent and Thom is to become a knight but neither of them want to go to their designated location. They hatch a scheme in order to do what they want. Can Alanna hide who she really is until she reaches knighthood?
Tamora has continued the Tortall series with this amazing book. The book is full of twists and turns around every corner. Alanna, George Cooper, Prince Jonathan and well all the other characters are so amazing. There is so much life in her books that you can actually imagine yourself there. Each time I read one of her books I learn something new that I missed before. Tortall is an amazing world to immerse yourself in.
I look forward to reading the rest of the Tortall series eventually.
