Carpe Corpus Review...

In the small college town of Morganville, vampires and humans lived in (relative) peace-until all the rules got rewritten when the evil vampire Bishop arrived, looking for the lost book of vampire secrets. He's kept a death grip on the town ever since. Now an underground resistance is brewing, and in order to contain it, Bishop must go to even greater lengths. He vows to obliterate the town and all its inhabitants-the living and the undead. Claire Danvers and her friends are the only ones who stand in his way. But even if they defeat Bishop, will the vampires ever be content to go back to the old rules, after having such a taste of power?

~~~***~~~***~~~
REVIEW!!!!
I am loving my reread of this series.  This book tells how they are fighting to get rid of Bishop for good.  Claire once again dies multiple times.  Shane starts out in prison.  Everybody is taking sides in the war for their town and Claire doesn't have a choice.  Can they all survive what is to come?
I love these books and I'm glad I decided to reread them.  I am going through the audiobooks this time and I absolutely love the narrator.  It is amazingly done and they make it easy to picture what is happening in the story.  I have one more book from the series available from Audible right now but I hope to get the rest of the series eventually.  So I will be taking a break from this series for a short while until I can afford the rest.
I love the characters of Morganville.  I love Rachel's writing style.  I love how each book basically picks up where the last one left off.  This is an amazing YA series and I highly recommend it to everybody.
Breaking Free: True Stories of Girls Who Escaped Modern Slavery Review...
Somaly Mam was born in the forests of Cambodia in the early 1970’s and sold into sexual slavery by her “grandfather” before she was even twelve years old.
Maria Suarez came to America from Mexico when she was fifteen with her family. She went on a job interview to be a maid. When she got inside, her “interviewer” locked the door and told her he owned her body from that moment on.
Minh Dang was born in San Jose, California. Her house was always neat and there were bright rose bushes in her front yard. Nobody knew that behind closed doors her parents were raping and abusing her from the time she was three years old. Soon they started selling her body to neighbors as well.
These three women could easily have been voiceless victims, lost to the horrors of their own histories. Instead, they not only fought their way out of sexual slavery, they have each become leading advocates and activists in the anti-trafficking movement.
Somaly Mam began her work simply, by supplying condoms and soap to the enslaved girls. Soon she was taking girls into her own home and helping them learn a trade. Eventually, a foundation was born where young women, rescued from the sex trade, could begin new lives for themselves. Maria is a counselor for abused women in California and speaks all over the globe about her experiences and empowering women to speak out for their rights. She is also busy starting the Maria Suarez Foundation, dedicated to Prevention, Rescue and Restoration of survivors. Minh is getting her Master’s in social work and has worked as executive director of Don’t Sell Bodies with actress Jada Pinkett Smith. Minh writes and speaks internationally about what it’s like to be a survivor and on learning how to love fearlessly for the first time.
Breaking Free: True Stories of Girls Who Escaped Slavery, by award-winning author Abby Sher, recounts these women’s incredible journeys from sex slave to survivor to savior— but it doesn’t stop there. The book delves even deeper into the horrors of human trafficking, an issue at the forefront of global outreach and activism.
With help from Somaly, Maria, Minh, and many other survivors and counselors, Sher tells the riveting story of what it means to be liberated from sexual trafficking and find the trust and conviction to help educate new survivors.
Remarkable, timely, and incredibly inspiring, Breaking Free, will strike a chord with all young readers as it recounts the stories of these courageous young women who, instead of running from their pasts, choose to help those still caught in the system. It sends the powerful message that, even in the most tragic circumstances, the unwavering hope and compassion of the human spirit can and will shine through.
The book has already been hailed by activists and educators as a powerful tool for the classroom and beyond. Breaking Free Teacher’s Guides are available for educators to incorporate the book into their lesson plans and include questions and exercises aligned to the Common Core.
REVIEW!!!!
I am not usually a fan of non-fiction books but I decided to give this book a shot because it is an important thing to read about.  The book follows the stories of three women who were part of sexual abuse and human trafficking.  It tells how they came out of it and moved past it (or are trying to).  It tells how they became activist to protect others in their situation.
While I have never been part of something like this it is inspiring to hear these women's stories and makes me want to help in some way.  The book has got me all tore up inside.  I will be looking into different ways I can help in my local area.
This is a book that everybody needs to read.  Thank you for writing such an amazing book!  In a world like this it is much needed.  We need to help save these women and protect them as much as we can.  Women are people not commodities to be sold and used for somebody else's profit.  Please take the time to read this book and learn how these people lived.
Soulless Review...
Alexia Tarabotti is laboring under a great many social tribulations.
First, she has no soul. Second, she's a spinster whose father is both Italian and dead. Third, she was rudely attacked by a vampire, breaking all standards of social etiquette.
Where to go from there? From bad to worse apparently, for Alexia accidentally kills the vampire--and then the appalling Lord Maccon (loud, messy, gorgeous, and werewolf) is sent by Queen Victoria to investigate.
With unexpected vampires appearing and expected vampires disappearing, everyone seems to believe Alexia responsible. Can she figure out what is actually happening to London's high society? Will her soulless ability to negate supernatural powers prove useful or just plain embarrassing? Finally, who is the real enemy, and do they have treacle tart?
~~~***~~~***~~~

REVIEW:

I found this book at the library and because I absolutely loved the Finishing School Series by Gail I grabbed it.  I did think it was her other series but I was not left disappointed I requested the Manga and the rest of the series as soon as I was half way through this book.

So this book follows the supernatural of London.  Alexia is a spinster who happens to be without a soul, also known as a Preternatural.  Lord Maccon is a werewolf who works as a supernatural liaison with B.U.R.  As the mystery they are trying to solve unravels and the full moon approaches can they survive?  Can they keep from falling in love?  Will the truth finally come out?

As before I loved the Finishing School series (still have to read book 4) and this one was no different.  Gail is a fantastic writer who throws you into a world that mixes upper and lower class into a supernatural world.  The writing seems seemless and flawless.  The characters were easily fallen in love with.  I loved Alexia's veracity from the very beginning and Lord Maccon's alpha spirit.  All the other characters blending flawlessly with the main characters and made the book even more enjoyable.

I look forward to continuing the series.  I am reading the Manga of book 1 and then will move onto book 2 (Changeless) and it's Manga.  I know that seems weird but I couldn't wait to dive into the Manga.

5 preternatural stars!!!

Title: Truce? Hating Elijah Monroe

Author: Amelia Kingston

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Release Day: October 1st

About Truce? Hating Elijah Monroe:

A small town enemies-to-lovers romantic comedy.

Harper Delaney is a newly certified elementary school teacher with the mountain of student loan debt to prove it. Moving back to her claustrophobically small hometown is about as tempting as two week old sushi, but the allure of free rent and a guaranteed summer teaching job are undeniable.

On the hunt for her dream job in San Francisco, Harper just needs to survive the summer without murdering Elijah Monroe. He may have grown into a scorchingly hot fireman, but he’s still her nemesis. Harper gave Elijah her heart when she was sixteen, and never forgave the jerk for not wanting it. Probably for the best, since he's also her stepbrother.

Elijah still makes Harper’s blood boil and heart race. And he knows it. She’ll wipe that smug smirk off his gorgeous face before leaving town. The only question is if she wants to do it with a kiss or a slap.

Exclusive Excerpt:

I know it’s been too long since I’ve had a date when my first thought at seeing a firetruck pull up outside the school isn’t “Oh, no. Where’s the fire?” but “Oh, yes. Where are the firemen!” I’m practically drooling when I see him step out of the truck. His tall frame is broad and solid. Every inch of his more than six-foot body is carved from stone. This guy is cut. Ripped. Hot. If I faint, will he give me mouth to mouth?

My heart drops into my stomach and a weird little squeak leaves my throat when I realize who it is. I might legit need CPR. He was cute as a boy, but he’s drop dead gorgeous as a man.

He’s not a man. He’s the devil. The bane of my adolescent existence. My stepbrother.

I drag my eyes up to Elijah’s face. He looks put together and mature in a way that I’m not prepared for. His hair is the same warm brown, but now it’s cut short and tidy. He’s clean shaven, making those full lips pop. Lips which are curved up into a familiar smug smirk as his bright green eyes sparkle with devious satisfaction. He caught me checking him out and he wants me to know it. He struts across the parking lot, shoulders back and chest puffed up. He’s the same pompous jerk I remember from high school, breaking hearts and causing trouble.

I look around the school yard and everyone has turned to watch the spectacle. The kids are all ogling the firetruck. The teachers and assistants are all ogling Elijah. I can’t control my groan. I cross my arms and scowl at him.

He’s still a few feet away when I snap, “What are you doing here?” I’m loud enough half the playground can hear me. My happy teacher persona is a distant memory. I’m an angry, frustrated sixteen-year-old again, fighting the magnetic pull drawing me to him. Was it always this strong? Doesn’t matter. I’ll never give in to it.

“Nice to see you too, Short Stack,” he quips, crossing his arms to match me.

“Enough with that stupid nickname already. It’s been almost a decade. Grow up, Elijah,” I fume. “Plus, it doesn’t even make sense.”

He looks down at the ground, trying to hide his smile. He loves winding me up. And I fell for it. Now I’m more annoyed than ever.

Connect with Amelia:

Amelia Kingston is many things, the most interesting of which are probably California girl, writer, traveler, and dog mom. She survives on chocolate, coffee, wine, and sarcasm. Not necessarily in that order.

She’s been blessed with a patient husband who’s embraced her nomad ways and traveled with her to over 30 countries across 5 continents (I’m coming for you next, Antarctica!). She’s also been cursed with an impatient (although admittedly adorable) terrier who pouts when her dinner is 5 minutes late.

She writes about strong, stubborn, flawed women and the men who can't help but love them. Her irreverent books aim to be silly and fun with the occasional storm cloud to remind us to appreciate the sunny days. As a hopeless romantic, her favorite stories are the ones that remind us all that while love is rarely perfect, it’s always worth chasing.

Noah waltzes into my office, taking me out of my misery for a split second. Moving my gaze from the ceiling, I watch as he flops down in my chair. His eyes are dancing as he watches me, a smile wide on his face.

“What?” I grunt.

He shakes his head. “Oh, nothing. Just that you’re in love and it seems like a little brunette has thwarted your plans. Personally, I think it’s hilarious. Watching you pine over the woman.”

I almost reach over my desk, grab his shirt and punch the shit out of him. Almost. But I don’t. Honestly, I don’t have the fucking energy. I haven’t slept in seven goddamn days. I’m exhausted.

“What’s your point?” I ask on a sigh.

“Since when was Lucas fucking Black a pussy?”

Lifting a brow, I press my lips together in a thin line. “Pretty brave coming into my office with that shit, Noah,” I bark.

He shakes his head. “Not brave. But you’re being stupid as shit. Go get your woman, man. You look fucking miserable, and you kind of smell,” he points out, scrunching his nose.

I turn my head, sniffing my armpit. Fuck. He’s right, I do kind of smell. I count back to my last shower and I cringe. I’m a two-shower-a-day kind of man, but honest to fuck, I think it’s been about four since I had my last one. Every single day has been a blur since I dropped Brooklyn off at her house.

“She doesn’t want me, and Christ, I don’t know if I really want her,” I sigh.

Noah stands, leans over, and presses his palms against my desk while he looks down at me. “You do. I know that you do. I know that you did the moment you locked eyes on her sweet ass. She’s special, Lucas and a woman like that you do not let slip through your fingers. Don’t be a fucking asshole, don’t be stubborn. Be the fucking lion and tackle your goddamn prey.”

Just One Night Review...

In Lauren Layne’s sizzling Sex, Love & Stiletto series, New York’s hottest “sexpert” has been living a lie—and it’s up to one man to keep her honest…all night long.

Riley McKenna knows sex—good sex, bad sex, kinky sex…Her articles in Stiletto magazine are consistently the publication’s most scandalous—and the most read. But Riley has a secret…all that sexy talk? Not an ounce of it comes from personal experience. Her own bedroom escapades are more limited than even her best friends know. When her editor requests that all columnists write something more personal for Stiletto’s anniversary issue, Riley turns to the one man she’s always been able to count on and calls in the favor of a lifetime.

Sam Compton would do anything for Riley McKenna. Anything except be her experimental sex toy. He refuses her request. At least until she tells him that it’ll either be him or she’ll go to someone else. And that, Sam can’t accept. Reluctantly he agrees to her terms—one night of completely meaningless sex in the name of research. Riley thinks she’s prepared for what awaits her in Sam’s bed. After ten years of writing about sex, actually doing it shouldn’t be that different, right? So wrong. What starts as “one time only” becomes “just one more time.” And then one more. And before they know it, Riley and Sam learn first-hand that when it comes to love, there’s no such thing as just one night.

~~~***~~~***~~~
REVIEW:
So this is book 3 in the Sex, Love & Stiletto series.  I did not realize that when I grabbed it but luckily they are stand alones.
Riley and Sam have been in love with each other for ever.  Sam is best friends with Riley's brother and had promised he would never touch her so he got married.  Now he is single again and Riley, who writes a sex column and hasn't experienced anything she writes about, propositions him in order to write an article for the anniversary edition.  Can they keep everything separate or will they end up falling harder for each other?  Will they end up together?  What will Liam (friend and brother) say or do?
I enjoyed this book.  Lauren Layne is one of those hit or miss authors for me but I absolutely fell in love with these characters and their predicaments.  It was well written and I loved seeing the family relationships for both characters.  I look forward to reading the rest of this series to find out how the other girls met their guys.
4.5 sexy stars!!!
Exclusive Excerpt:
I groaned as I stood and lumbered into the kitchen where Erin promptly let out a little yelp. She pressed her hands to her heart and took a few deep breaths before laughing hysterically.
Really. She doubled over, her long hair waterfalling to the ground, leaving me to admire the nearly bare expanse of her back but for the two small spaghetti straps of her tank top. When she finally turned upright, her face was red and her green eyes were wet with tears.
“I’m sorry,” I said, chuckling long with her since the sound of laughter was irresistible.
“No, I’m sorry. I—I didn’t expect to see you. I thought you were in bed. And your beard is, like, wow, so I didn’t realize it was you, even though of course it’s you.” She pressed her lips together. “Anyway, I’m sorry for laughing hysterically. It was that, or cry, and I do enough crying so laugh it was.”
“I’ve been sleeping down here so I’m upright. Did you need something?” I asked, and as soon as her face fell, I realized I’d done it again. She set the rag in her hand on the counter and moved to go, but I grabbed her wrist.
“Please. I don’t mean that in a brusque way. I’m not trying to get rid of you. I want to help you find what you need, if you need something,” I said, lowering my voice because whenever she was this close, which was rarely lately, I wanted to say things to only her. I wanted things between us that only we knew about.
She stared down at my hand on her wrist, then back at my face, her chest rising and falling. “I, uh… I came to check and see how the kitchen was. Your mom doesn’t always clean up, so I came to make sure everything was put away so you wouldn’t wake up to a mess.” She looked down like she was embarrassed and gently pulled her arm away.
“That’s very kind of you, Erin.” Her lashes fluttered when I said her name, and I wondered if she preferred her nickname. I’d have to try it out next time.
“Not really. I’m saving myself from more work tomorrow.”
“Tomorrow?” I asked, stepping closer to her because apparently my body wanted more of her proximity.
“I’ll be here to make you breakfast. I mean, if that’s ok, of course,” she said, red rising to her cheeks.
“I’d like nothing more,” I said, catching her green eyes with mine to make sure she understood my sincerity. I was done fumbling around and failing to communicate with her. I’d bungled things between us enough already, and if my mother had obligated Erin to help me, I wasn’t going to make her feel unwanted.
She returned my stare a moment longer, her eyes moving between mine every few seconds.
And then it happened.
Then the best thing of my week happened.
The month.
Sure, maybe the year. I’d made the promotion list for lieutenant colonel and I was pleased about that, but this? This probably topped that.
Her focus moved from one eye, to the other, and then dipped down and caressed my lips. I kid you not, I could practically feel the brush of her lashes against my mouth.
Then, of course, she jerked away and plastered a smile on her face, bid me goodnight, and excused herself.
But it’d happened.
About Claire Cain:
Claire Cain lives to eat and drink her way around the globe with her traveling soldier and two kids, but is perhaps even happier hunkered down at home in a pair of sweatpants and slippers using any free moment she has to read and cook. Or talk—she really likes to talk. She has become an expert at packing too many dishes in too few cabinets and making houses into homes from Utah to Germany and many places in between. “Where are we?” I chance asking, changing the subject.
Taz coughs, but Jaguar is the next to speak. “We’re in Arizona, almost to Egar, where you’ll call your new home. If you cause any trouble, we won’t hesitate to end you, Bellarosa. We’re only bringing you along because both of us think that there’s a chance one of our men may like you for himself. If he don’t, then there are about twenty men that would kill for a turn,” he mutters.
“You act like that’s a threat,” I snort.
His finger touches the underside of my chin and he lifts it up, his dark eyes boring into mine. “It’s not a threat, just an observation. You’re young and beautiful. I’m sure you’re damn good in the sack, too. We’re not much different than the Zanetti famiglia. We keep whores, except we don’t charge for them. They’re for our use and whoever we decide is allowed to play.”
I lick my bottom lip, keeping my gaze focused on his. “I’ve never received a penny for my services, Jaguar. If this is some kind of game, you won’t scare me. I won’t be a pawn, not anymore. I want my freedom,” I say, telling him my truth, my secret.
“None of us is free, babe. You gotta get that shit out of your head, right fuckin’ now. We all owe a debt to someone. Whether it be the man above us, or the Devil. Ain’t none of us without a puppeteer,” Taz mutters.
I close my eyes for a moment, inhaling a deep breath, thinking about his words. Maybe he’s right. Maybe this dream of being free, maybe it was all for absolutely nothing. Letting out my breath in a heavy exhale, I open my eyes to find the truck stopping in front of a gate.
REVIEW
So in this book the Hashtag crew visits BearPaw Resort for a bit of fun on the slopes.  As per usual Rimmel finds trouble in the most absurd way possible.  I didn't think it would be possible to fall further in love with either group of characters but boy was I wrong.
These characters are so much fun.  I enjoy living in these characters worlds so much.  So many overly protective men and women that have absurd things happen to them in one story was absolute heaven.  I love absolutely all of these men and one day hope to be so lucky as to find one just like any of them.  I relate to Rimmel and Bellamy so much it's not even funny.
I really, really enjoyed this book.  I would love to have seen it be much longer but I still really loved it.  These two series characters have been forever engrained on my heart and I hope to see more from them in the near future.  Thank you for another amazing book about this ever growing family Cambria!
Subzero Review...
My best friend, Liam Mattison, was born with snow in his veins.
Me? Ice.
Maybe that’s why my eyes are this color. Maybe it’s because I was born in Caribou, where there’s more snow than sun.
I always knew I had a chill within me, but after my time with the army, that chill froze over. I saw and did things most people couldn’t fathom. I made contacts with people who were more beast than man.
I came home altered, and there was no going back.
Except I did. It had to be done, and I didn’t regret it.
But now I’m thrust back into a world where people had forgotten my name. Back into a past I walked away from.
Memories of all the things I’ve done, of the people I’ve left behind, are floating to the surface.
The late-night summons wasn’t really unexpected.
The request was.
Saying no is impossible when you’re the only man equipped for the job. Saying no is difficult when what you really want to say is yes.
So here I am, past and present colliding with a woman I intentionally left behind. A woman who needs me to keep her alive.
I made a promise, and I will keep it.
Even if I die doing it. Even if it means the ice inside me goes subzero.
REVIEW
This book is all about Alex and his love interest Sabrina.  Both are strong headed and don't want to admit their feelings still exist.  This book gives you some insight into Alex's cold and dark past with the military and why when his friend Daniel requests a favor Alex says yes.  Because of Daniel his sister Sabrina is in trouble and the only person he feels safe leaving her with is Alex.  When Daniel had seen them getting close years ago he kind of forced Alex to leave and with Liam in the hospital he did and didn't look back.  Can Alex and Sabrina work out the past and move on?  Will Sabrina get her way?  What could possibly go wrong?
This book was so good.  I was hoping to get to read something about Alex and knew I would love it when I did.  But this went above and beyond my expectations.  I love Alex's character and to pair him with somebody like Sabrina was outstanding.  I would love to see a series about the military group he was a part of.  There aren't many left but still a good series.
I look forward to reading more about these characters.  I kind of hope they get a coloring book as well.
Pascal said. “You’re going to get close to Jake Allen. Be his wedding date.”
“Jake Allen? You mean, the best man? I guarantee he’s got a date.” She wasn’t some sort of secret agent or super spy who could take orders to commit crimes on their behalf. Would she if they asked? Her hands shook to the point she struggled to keep the phone level with her ear. If she said no, she could end up in the same afterlife as Stuart or arrested by the FBI for corporate espionage. A yes from her meant she’d hurt people she cared about.
“Jake is at carousel six. We’ve taken care of things to create an opportunity.”
He’s here? Her gaze darted left where the carousels increased in number. “I don’t need to be Jake’s date to be close to him. I’m the groom’s sister. I’ve known Jake for years.”
“We need you to be very close to him. More details will come later.”
“I can’t go as Jake’s date. He and I…” The line went dead. Don’t get along.
Exclusive Excerpt:
Breathe, Collier, just breathe… He forced himself to take in a steady stream of air through his nose then slowly released it from his mouth. If he focused hard enough on his breathing, his mind would absorb the pain. A few breaths later, sweat formed on his spine, and once again, he was white-knuckling the back counter. Fuck. The damn pills weren’t kicking in fast enough. He needed a distraction.
“Excuse me, bartender.” The woman’s sultry voice coming from behind Rome teased him from the brink of hell. “I’ll take an orgasm.”
He’d filled countless orders for sex on the beaches, blow jobs, and wet pussies, but overly coy deliveries or too much effort had ruined the effect. From her naturally sensual tone, this woman had confidence lying on its back begging to please her.
He glanced over his shoulder.
Auburn highlights shown in the woman’s shoulder-length black hair. Long lashes accented her brown eyes, and her full berry-colored lips were beyond tempting. A thin-strapped, red tank top complemented flawless brown skin.
Fuck confidence lying on its back. He’d gladly lay under one of her sexy stilettos for a closer look at her long shapely legs and equally enticing curves. At least, that’s what he envisioned the counter hid from his view.
Logan glanced over as if he was planning to take her order, prompting Rome to ignore the pain and walk to her at the counter. “Sure you don’t want champagne instead? It’s on the house.”
“No.” She tapped one of her red manicured nails against the Naughty Nine menu. “I’m definitely interested in a number five.” Her gaze met his. “I haven’t had a really good orgasm in years.”
Too bad she was only talking about the drink. Or was she? “So, it’s been hard to find someone to deliver what’s on the menu?”
“Yes. My ex-husband definitely failed that test.” For a moment, a flash of sadness intermingled with the spark of mischief in her eyes.
Her ex was clearly a dumb bastard or a fool. A woman as sexy as this one deserved at least one orgasm every damn day of the week. As he envisioned slipping the straps from her shoulders, revealing her voluptuous breasts and more of her silky-smooth skin, his groin tightened. If she was in his arms, he’d explore every inch of her on the way to delivering what she’d been unfairly denied.
Rome rested his hands on the bar and leaned in. Her perfume, feminine and sensual, lured him closer. “Are you sure you’re only in the mood for one?”
“I’d love more than one, but I don’t want to come off as…” Her long lashes raised as she looked up and gave him a ghost of a smile. “Greedy.”
As the last word purred from her lips, goosebumps raised on his arms. He welcomed the challenge of satisfying this beautiful woman.
Rome reached for a cocktail shaker and paused. Pouring liqueurs over ice and shaking it up was the half-ass way of doing it. She’d asked for a really good orgasm, and he’d give her one.
