Neighbor From Hell 8: Fire & Brimstone Review...

What happens when a Bradford with questionable OCD, a tempter and a reputation for making his employees cry falls for the woman that refuses to accept the fact that he’s fired her and was terrifyingly more of a Bradford than he was?

Well, we can’t share that here, because it would be seriously inappropriate, but we’re sure that you can see where this is leading…

To the altar or a stint in the slammer, either one is possible when it comes to the Neighbor from Hell Series.

Author’s Note: This book along with the rest of the series is intended to make you smile, let you relax and forget the drama and stress that plagues our lives even if its just for a little while. This is a drama free book. My goal is to put a smile on your face and I hope this book does that.

REVIEW!!!!

This is Lucifer’s book and it’s so good.

Lucifer has spent months trying to fire his crazy waitress Rebecca.  But why does he suddenly feel like he needs to do anything to help her and protect her.  Rebecca absolutely loves making Lucifer insane at work.  She has been sick her entire life but nobody can tell her what is wrong with her.  It is because of Lucifer that she is finally diagnosed with Celiac disease, which explained why she has always been sick.  These two do their best to frustrate each other to no end but do they ultimately give into each other?  Does Lucifer’s protective instincts fight with his urge to torment this woman?

We learned a lot about Lucifer including his real name and how he got dubbed Lucifer.  It also lined up at least one book, possibly two books.  I am really excited to read Aiden’s book now.  I also really look forward to reading the spin-off about the kids when it finally comes.  This one had a fun and amazing plot.  The characters were fun and Rebecca is the perfect fit for the Bradford clan.

I could go on and on about this series but for now I will just say that I cannot wait for the next book in this series.  I’m hoping it comes out real soon!  These books are written to be read as a stand alone series.  You don’t have to read them in order but it does help if you do.  That way you understand exactly how insane Jason and Trevor really are because they are in every single book.  I do know that I am missing at least one brother in this family but I hope that we learn about each of them!  Great series and I need more!!!!!

Neighbor From Hell 7: Christmas From Hell Review...

Duncan Bradford is used to putting other people first even the annoying little jinx that lives next door, but when the unexpected happens and he starts to see her in a whole new light, he decides that it's time that he acts more like a Bradford and takes what he wants.

~~~~****~~~~****~~~~
REVIEW!!!!
Necie is the accident prone neighbor of Danny, Jodi and Duncan.  Duncan is the firefighter of the family and is also living with Danny and Jodi to help while Jodi is pregnant and Danny is still recuperating.  Duncan has spent the last year trying to avoid Necie and her accidents but after an accident on Thanksgiving things change between them.  But it isn’t until a power outage a few weeks later that both of them realize how much they both really want each other.  Is Necie really as bad as he thought she was?  Can Duncan look past the klutziness at the rest of her?
These two have a different start because Necie actually starts out with a crush on Duncan and it is Duncan who is avoiding her.  I love watching these two as they fight through their emotions and hatred for each other.  I absolutely loved these characters.  The plot was fun and entertaining.  The book did start out kind of slow for me but it definitely picked up the pace.
I absolutely loved this book and am sad that I currently have only one book left in this series.  I know she has spin-offs and chronicles coming and hope to have more books about these boys.  I know there are at least two brothers left and I would love to read a book about Kensie and of course there are Rory’s brothers.  I want to know about all of them!  Can’t wait to continue the series later on today.  After that I will wait diligently for whoever comes next!
Honeymoon From Hell 6: Double Dare Review...
Finally, after all these years Marybeth was finally his and he was going to do whatever it took to keep her, even if that meant risking it all.
Along with their Honeymoon from Hell has been added "What Really Happened.." the story of how Darrin and Marybeth finally came together. They will be released in Chronicle form on the website in the next few weeks, but are published as a collection in this novelette.
~~~~****~~~~****~~~~

REVIEW!!!!

Darrin and Mary Beth are about to be parents of triplets and ready to go on their Honeymoon.  However, the family is doing absolutely anything they can in order to stop them from going and to save them from the curse.  It is hilarious and such a fun read.  The family however doesn’t realize that their Honeymoon from Hell was the family trip to Disney.  So this trip doesn’t really have anything go wrong.

It is in fact a hilarious story despite the fact that nothing really goes wrong with it.  Is the curse finally broken or did the trip to Disney count as their Honeymoon?  I guess we will never know.  I loved learning more about these two and their family curse through this book.  I really hope to see more chronicles in e-book format one day.  I also hope that the e-books of HFH continue through the series because they are really fun.

Neighbor From Hell 6: Double Dare Review...

Marybeth still couldn’t believe that she’d survived this long with a friend like Darrin, but somehow she’d managed to beat the odds and not give in to temptation and smother him with a pillow while he slept.

Of course some days were more difficult than others…

For twenty years he’s been biding his time, waiting for the right moment to make his move and now that it was here…
He couldn’t seem to stop screwing up.

Author’s Note:

Every NFH novel is written so that it can be enjoyed as a stand-alone book with the exception of this one. When I started writing Double Dare it wasn’t meant to coincide with The Game Plan, but it does. So, if you haven’t read The Game Plan, you may want to wait until after you do so that you can fully enjoy this book.

~~~~****~~~~****~~~~
REVIEW!!!!
Darrin and Mary Beth met each other as young kids and have been best friends ever since.  They have a secret relationship that he wants to make into something so much more than that.  Mary Beth has a secret that is tearing her apart inside and makes her believe she is unworthy of marriage.  Darrin can think of nobody but Mary Beth and won’t consider leaving her to find somebody who can give him what he wants.  They also enjoy a fun game of double dare in order to get what they want from the other.  Will all the lies and secrets come out?  Will these two finally settle their differences or will they be over forever?  Will they get the family they rightfully deserve?
This was a fun and sweet couple.  I truly loved watching their relationship unfold as they grew up.  I also enjoyed seeing the trip to Disney through another couples eyes.  So much fun.  Two struggling couples on a trip to Disney with their family has never been so entertaining.  Especially since Darrin’s mother believes he is in fact gay.  The matchmaking, the fights, the steamy parts and the love and concern these men have for their family go above and beyond anything I’ve ever read before.
This is definitely a great book and again I say if you have not read this series then what are you waiting for.  This is the last re-read I have and I am moving onto the last HFH book and the next two NFH books!  I look forward to seeing more books in this series and understand there is to be a spin-off about the kids of the Bradford clan.  I am also going to patiently await the last two HFH books.  I will definitely be looking into some of R. L.’s other series as well.
Honeymoon From Hell 5: Game Plan Review...
She's finally his after months of being stuck in the hospital recovering from one of the dumbest moment's of his life, Jodi was his and he was going to make sure that she stayed that way, which of course meant a trip Vegas, some help from his family and breaking a few laws. Danny didn't care what he had to do, as long as he got to keep his Tinkerbelle.
~~~~****~~~~****~~~~

REVIEW!!!!

In true HFH fashion this book doesn’t disappoint.

When Danny finally admits to himself that he is in love with Jodi he starts planning her abduction and the breaking of a city wide ban.  He does absolutely everything within his power to make sure it is in no way a Honeymoon but does that stop the curse.  It doesn’t seem to.  There are arrests, new bans, cars, planes and oh so much more in this hilarious tale of an awful honeymoon that isn’t really a honeymoon at all.

Oh my god!  Jodi’s adverse effects to medicine this book is downright crazy!  This is by far my favorite in the HFH stories.  Not that the actual trip was at all honeymoon related, but the curse seems to strike anyways.  I love that it not only affects the newlyweds but also seems to strike anybody around them at the time.  So Jason, Trevor and Danny’s father are all swept up in the curse as well.  Now that is a productive curse lol.

Absolutely loved this book!  Those poor cops didn’t even see it coming.  Can’t wait to see what happens in the next one and I hope to see more HFH books soon!

Neighbor From Hell 5: Game Plan Review...

Spend the next 40 years in prison or break her lease early?

Normally she’d be able to say that this one was a no-brainer, but things have definitely changed since she was forced to move in across the hall from Danny Bradford.

A lot of things……

She wanted to get through one day, just ONE day without Danny Bradford doing something to test the limits to her control, but with that damn smile of his and his habit of leaving her contemplating manslaughter, she didn’t see that happening anytime soon.

He loved his family, but some days…….

It was too much, but that was okay, because his small neighbor living across the hallway provided him with endless hours of entertainment. Not on purpose of course, but did it really matter as long she made him smile?

~~~~****~~~~****~~~~
REVIEW!!!!
While I love Trevor and Zoey’s book the most as a whole my all time favorite character is Jodi.  Love this book so much, it almost ties for first with Perfection!
Jodi is living in one of Trevor’s apartments after her ex-fiance spent every dime she had and then left her basically at the altar.  She also have a severely adverse effect to medicine of any kind.  Danny is ex-marine who came home with a major spine injury that should have left him dead.  Danny loves to torment Jodi or as he calls her Tink and everybody teases that he will marry Jodi one day soon.  While the two of them are on a family trip to Disney things take a drastic change for both of them.  Can these two make it work?  Will the family give him the space he needs to move on with his life?  Will they both finally announce how they feel about each other?
Jodi’s issues with medicine is what makes this book so hilarious.  She also has a tendency to get herself in situations that require the use of medicine to help her out.  Then there is Danny’s round about way of getting what he wanted from her.  Add all the other Bradford’s to the mix and this is an amazing book.  I love the flow and pace.  I love the plot and of course the characters.  Like I said before it is almost tied for first place for favorite in the series for me however, I felt like Jodi seemed to be drugged up most of the time.
All in all I have one more book to re-read and then I am onto first reads of the rest of the books!  R. L. Mathewson I absolutely adore this series and hope that it never ends.  We need to know every Bradford that ever was, is or will be to be completely appeased.
Beautiful Mistake Sneak Peek!!!
The first time I met Caine West was in a bar.
He noticed me looking his way and mistakenly read my scowling as checking him out.
When he attempted to talk to me, I set him straight—telling him what I thought of his lying, cheating, egomaniacal ass.
You see, the gorgeous jerk had wined and dined my best friend--smooth talking her into his bed, all along failing to mention that he was married.
He deserved every bit of my tongue-lashing and more for what he'd done.
Especially when that lazy smile graced his perfect face in response to my rant.
Only it turned out, the man I'd just told off wasn't the right guy.
Oops.  My mistake.
Embarrassed, I slunk out without an apology.
I was never going to see the handsome stranger again anyway, right?
That’s what I thought…until I walked into class the next morning.
Well, hello Professor West, I’m your new teaching assistant.
I’ll be working under you…figuratively speaking.
Although the literal interpretation might not be such a bad thing—working under Professor West.
This was going to be interesting…
An excerpt from Beautiful Mistake…
The class was completely empty. I wasn’t even sure he knew I was still in my seat. If he did, he was good at ignoring me as he packed up his laptop.
“Contrary to the rumors you’ve probably heard, I don’t bite.”
I jumped when he spoke. Now that the lecture hall was no longer filled with students, the acoustics of the large space bounced his deep voice all over the walls.
I stood and began my walk of shame down to the front of the classroom. There was no doubt I owed the man an apology, even if he wasn’t a professor—a professor who would be my new boss for at least the next fifteen weeks. I wanted to kick myself in the ass for not apologizing last night before I left the bar. Now it would seem like I was only doing it because of the situation I was in.
Which was true, don’t get me wrong, but I didn’t want it to seem that way.
I took a deep breath. “I’m so sorry about last night.”
His face was unreadable. “I figured you might be, right about now.”
“I obviously thought you were someone else.”
“So I assumed. You thought I was the asshole. The one with the big dick, was it?”
I shut my eyes. For the last ninety minutes, I’d replayed the entire exchange from last night over and over in my head. I thought I’d remembered everything I said, but apparently I hadn’t. When I reopened my eyes, Professor West was still watching me. His stare was pretty damn intense.
I started to babble. “My friend Ava went out with this guy Owen for a month or so. He was full of shit from day one, but she didn’t see it. Actually walked up to her when she was leaving work one night and said, ‘Do you mind if I walk you home? My mother always told me to follow my dreams.’ She fell for it, the entire act, from the first day. Then one Saturday, he was supposedly out of town on business, and she was across town running errands for her mother. She took a shortcut through Madison Square Park on her way back from the grocery store and ran into him. He was with his wife and kids.”
“And you thought I was him, apparently?”
I nodded. “She came in during my shift and started drinking Long Island iced teas. When Owen walked in, she pointed to where he was standing and said he was the one in the blue shirt.”
“And we were both wearing blue shirts, I take it?”
I couldn’t help but smile, thinking of Ava last night. “Actually, no. Ava’s not much of a drinker. Turned out she was more sloshed than I thought. Owen’s shirt was brown—not even black that could be mistaken as navy or something.”
I saw Professor West’s lip twitch.
“Anyway, I’m really sorry. I barely gave you a chance to speak, and then when I realized what had happened, I was so mortified I didn’t even stop to apologize.”
“I accept your apology for last night. Even though you shouldn’t be approaching a man in the hallway to tell him off alone, your intentions were admirable.”
I should have shut up and been grateful he’d accepted my apology. Should have. “Why can’t I approach a man in the hallway?”
He leveled me with a stare. “Because you’re five foot nothing in a loud bar, and no one would have heard you if I’d dragged you into the men’s room and locked the door.”
I folded my arms over my chest. “I can take care of myself.”
“I didn’t say you couldn’t. I said you shouldn’t put yourself in those situations.”
“But you insinuated that I couldn’t by making that statement.”
He zipped his leather bag closed. “Ms. Martin, I just accepted your apology for calling me an asshole last night. Would you like me to retract that acceptance?”
God, I really was an idiot. Being around this man seemed to turn me into a psychopath. “No. I’m sorry. I acted like a jerk, and I’d like to start over, if that’s possible.”
He nodded. “Everything prior to this morning is forgotten.”
“Thank you.”
“But this morning is not. I won’t accept lateness. Don’t let it happen again.”
I swallowed. “It won’t.”
He lifted his worn, brown leather laptop bag over one shoulder. “Meet me here at five tomorrow. We’ll go over the syllabus and the classes you’ll teach, as well as my grading rubric.”
That was smack in the middle of my shift, but I’d figure something out. “Okay.”
“Are you done for the day?”
“I am. I actually have to get to work. I’m covering Ava’s shift because she isn’t feeling too well after last night. We both work at O’Leary’s.”
“You waitress there?”
“Waitress, bartend, occasionally tell off patrons.”
That earned me a full smile from Professor West. God, he should do that more often. No, forget that. He definitely shouldn’t.
“I’ll walk out with you.”
We walked through the halls together and out to the parking lot. When we arrived at my car, I stopped. “This is me. So…five o’clock tomorrow?”
Professor West looked at my beat-up old Subaru. “You’re parked in a spot reserved for the Provost. You got a parking ticket.” He squinted. “Actually, it looks like you have two parking tickets. Was your inspection expired or something?”
Crap. “Umm…no. I keep an extra ticket in the glove compartment and stick it on my windshield when I’m forced to park illegally.”
His brows shot up. “Inventive.”
“Obviously it doesn’t always work.”
“Obviously.”
“They need more parking. When you’re late, it’s impossible to find a spot.”
He studied me. “Lateness is a frequent occurrence for you, I take it?”
“Unfortunately, it is.”
“Then I should clarify something I said earlier.”
“Oh, no, that’s not necessary. I won’t be late for your class.”
He took a step closer and leaned in. “I’m glad to hear that, Ms. Martin. But that’s not what needs clarification.”
I swallowed. God, he smells good.
“Earlier I told you I didn’t bite students.” He smiled, and I felt the wickedness from it shoot down to some interesting places. “I don’t. But I make no promises about not biting feisty TAs.”
Honeymoon From Hell 4: Truce Review...
This is how it all started, Robert Bradford set the tone for all the men in his family to come and he did it the only way that he knew how, but driving Elizabeth crazy and making sure that she would never forget how much he loved her.
~~~~*****~~~~****~~~~

REVIEW!!!!

I was a bit confused with how this book started and wasn’t sure where it was going.  It ended up so good though.  This one starts in the past and goes to the present and Jared telling Robert and Elizabeth’s honeymoon story.  However, is it really considered a Honeymoon when it happens almost two years after the wedding.  Maybe it was back then.

All in all it was a hilariously twisted tale of the worst things that could possibly happen.  Robert realizes that his wife needs a break from their twin devils and decides to take her on the Honeymoon she truly deserves.  Stubborn as he is he refuses to accept the generous help his brother and their families have offered and wants to do it on his own.  Bad goes to worse in just a short while.  Robert and Elizabeth have got to have the worst Honeymoon in the history of honeymoons and I would be deathly afraid to take one too after hearing that story but it wouldn’t stop me.  I would just be a little more vigilante of my surroundings.

Great book and I loved hearing more about these two brilliant characters.  I loved getting a better view of the Honeymoon curse and where it originated.  Great writing.  However, I did feel that this one was a little bit choppy.  It was difficult to follow in the beginning.  I still thoroughly enjoyed it however, it does knock a little bit off the rating for me.

Neighbor From Hell 4: Truce Review

This is the story before everything...

Elizabeth knows what’s expected of her, perfection. She’s the daughter of an Earl and expected to marry well, say and do the right things with a smile on her face when inside she’s dying for a chance to escape. Thanks to an inheritance her godmother left her years ago, her chance will come with her next birthday. Her hopes of escape abruptly end when Robert, her childhood nemesis that she hasn't seen in over fourteen years, comes back into her life and does everything he can to drive her out of her mind even as he steals her heart.

He hated her.

At least, he tried to hate her, but it was so damn difficult to hate someone that he couldn't live without. He tried to ignore her, tried to focus on anything but her, but nothing worked. Somehow she made her way into his heart and started to make him want things that he never thought possible, made him smile and laugh even while she drove him out of his mind and started a legacy by turning him into...

A Bradford.

~~~~****~~~~****~~~~
REVIEW!!!!
Truce is a historical fiction book within the series that explains the Bradford tradition of the fifth anniversary.  The plot is similar to Rory and Connor with two people who grew up tormenting each other and hating each other before forming a truce and ending up together.  However Robert and Elizabeth grew up in London where it was common for young men to go to boarding school.  This means that they had not seen each other for fourteen years and didn’t recognize each other when they are forced into the truce.
Robert and Elizabeth meet at a party after being apart for fourteen years.  Neither knew who the other was when they had an improper encounter in the orange grove.  That improper encounter led to the need for them to be married quickly.  They seemingly hate each other so it is entertaining to see how everything unfolds between them.  Do they both finally admit to each other how they feel?  Does the supposed tragedy that happened on their wedding night change things forever?  Do their families eventually support their choice?
In historic upper class London there were a lot of improprieties and these characters had or did just about all of them.  I am a huge fan of historical fiction and love the fact that this series has one.  I believe I heard there will be a second.  Anyways, I loved learning where the journey started.  One thing I do wish we had learned was why the Bradford’s eat so much.  From this book it seems that it started with Robert so what is it that has them eating so much.  I love the way the characters fight all the things deemed proper for their time and do what they want.  It is just a funny, intriguing and spectacularly written book.
I do hope to see another historical book in this series with some other traditions picked up along the way.  The Bradford’s are nothing if not traditional.  If somebody in their family did it for the first time then it is most likely a tradition.  I can’t wait to continue reading about this family of intense and tradition based men (minus Rory of course).  Thank you R. L. Mathewson for a series that you never want to put down.
Exclusive Excerpt:
It felt good to be writing songs again—even if he was the only one who might ever hear them.
Well, he and Jolie.
When Corbin let it slip that he’d been writing, Jolie begged him to bring his guitar to the river the next afternoon.
“The fall leaves are beautiful,” Corbin said, gazing at the mountains in the distance.
“They are. And you’re stalling.”
He couldn’t deny it. Corbin had never been one to be nervous about sharing new songs, but for some reason, this seemed different. Important. Meaningful. Maybe because the inspiration for these songs was sitting right in front of him, with her long hair in a braid and her green eyes bright with excitement as she eagerly awaited whatever he was about to play for her.
But that wasn’t the only reason he was nervous.
“I have a confession to make, Jolie.”
She crossed her legs in front of her. “Okay.”
“These songs . . . they’re the most I’ve ever written . . . while sober.”
Jolie nodded in understanding.
“I mean, there’s a very good chance they’ll suck. I just want you to be prepared. And I want you to be honest if they are.”
“They won’t suck.”
“How do you know?”
“Because they won’t.”
Corbin sighed heavily and pulled his guitar out of its case. Her faith unnerved him, maybe because he was used to letting everyone down. The very last thing he ever wanted to do was disappoint her.
Jolie must’ve sensed his anxiety, because before he placed his fingers on the strings, she gently reached for his hand.
“Don’t be nervous. It’s just me.”
Corbin smiled and squeezed her hand. She had no way of knowing it, but these days, it was her opinion that mattered most.
Taking a deep breath, he attached the capo to the neck of the guitar and strummed a few strings to make sure it was in tune.
Then he started to sing.
One song effortlessly flowed into the next, with Corbin’s soft tenor voice echoing across the water. He kept his eyes closed or on his guitar the entire time, too afraid to see Jolie’s reaction to the music. It was only when he played the final note in his last song that he finally allowed himself a glance at the beautiful woman sitting in front of him.
Tears streamed down her cheeks.
“I know they’re rough,” he said, his voice shaking slightly as he placed his guitar back in the case. “I’m still struggling with the bridge in that last one. My fault, since I wrote it that way. I was thinking maybe I should cut it out completely or—”
“Corbin—”
“And in the first song . . . the chorus needs some work. I’m thinking maybe trying it in a different key or something. I don’t know.”
“Corbin James, shut up and listen to me.”
He took a steadying breath and gazed at her.
“I loved them,” she said softly.
“Yeah?”
“Every single word. Every single note.”
Corbin lifted his hand and trailed his fingers along her cheek, wiping her tears away. He heard her breath hitch in her throat as he leaned closer. He knew it was risky. Kissing her could ruin everything before it even had the chance to turn into something . . . something that might be incredible and wonderful and life changing.
It was a chance he had to take.
Not kissing her simply wasn’t an option.
Not anymore.
Jolie’s eyes fluttered closed as he cupped her cheek, letting his nose glide against hers. With a quiet sigh, her lips parted in silent invitation, and he couldn’t help but smile when he felt her tremble against him.
“This could change everything,” Corbin whispered, kissing the hollow just below her ear.
“I hope so.”
Their arms wrapped around each other, and Corbin buried his face against her neck, inhaling deeply and drowning in her sweet scent. She moaned softly, and it was that moan that finally broke him.
Corbin had every intention of kissing her gently, but her moan, combined with her hands pulling him impossibly closer, sent his body into overdrive, and they both groaned when his mouth hungrily captured hers. Frantic and sweet. Frenzied and tender. With quiet sighs and gentle whispers and warm arms that held each other tight, they laid back against the autumn grass and kissed until the sun disappeared behind the mountains.
A secret smile hovers around her lips. She crooks a finger, inviting me closer. I’m in her face so fast, I’ve probably set a new land speed record. She puts her lips against my ear and whispers, “You don’t really think I’m going to sleep with a man I met five minutes ago, do you?”
Something inside my chest does this flopping, dying fish thing that doesn’t seem healthy. I have to stifle a groan. I want this woman so bad, I can taste it.
I turn my head a fraction and now we’re nose to nose, staring into each other’s eyes. Hers are a gorgeous caramel brown, twinkling with mischief.
I say, “Of course not. I’m a gentleman. I was gonna let you finish those conch croquettes first.”
She slow blinks and smiles.
My titanium boner is in serious jeopardy of exploding in my shorts.
“You haven’t even asked what I’m doing in St. Croix.” Angeline leans back and lazily selects another of the croquettes from the plate. “I could be vacationing with my husband.”
“No ring,” I counter, watching her make eating a piece of fried seafood look like dirty fetish porn.
She swallows and licks her lips, obviously enjoying torturing me. “My boyfriend, then.”
“You don’t have a boyfriend.”
My tone of total confidence makes her arch an eyebrow. “No? What makes you so certain of that?”
“Because you kiss like you’re starving, you look at me like a little kid looks at all the presents under the tree on Christmas morning, and you’re not the type of woman who cheats on her man. You’re too serious for that, even though you try to seem carefree.”
Something crosses her face, a look of surprise or irritation, instantly erased. She says, “I had no idea I was so transparent.”
Though her tone is casual, I can tell she’s disturbed. She doesn’t want me to look too closely, to notice things about her. Naturally, that makes me want to notice even more. I’m a bloodhound with the fresh scent of fox in my nose.
Let the hunt begin.
“Ignore me,” I say, watching her compose herself. “I’ve been out in the sun too long. So tell me, Angel, what brings you to St. Croix?”
She flips a lock of long brown hair over her shoulder and swivels on the stool so she’s facing the bar counter, her eyes turned away. “Work.”
I look at the infinity pool, the lush green mountains in the distance, the sparkling Caribbean Sea dotted with sailboats. Then I look back at her, in all her exotic glory. “Lemme guess. You’re a model.”
“I’m a travel writer, doing a piece on the fine resorts of the Caribbean.”
“A writer.” Sure you are. And I’m Dolly Parton. I slide onto the barstool next to her and take a slug of my warm beer. “Guess you’re not just a pretty face after all.”
I’m gifted with her full-throated laugh again. “You mean you couldn’t tell from that line I used on you when you came back from the pool?”
“So it was a line,” I drawl, gently bumping her shoulder with mine. When she looks at me, I grin. “You are gonna sleep with me.”
She tries to look offended but completely fails. “You think you’re extremely charming, don’t you?” she says, all prim and proper. Now it’s my turn to laugh.
“Hardly. My mama always said I’ve got the manners God gave a goat. I’m just a beer-drinkin’ good ol’ boy from Georgia with more balls than brains.”
Angeline eyes me. She lets her gaze linger on my tattoos, the scars on my stomach, and my hands, which have spent near equal time on the keys of a piano as they have on an M16 rifle. She says softly, “Or maybe that’s what you want people to think.”
Our eyes lock. A strange sensation makes its way through my stomach. It’s fizzy. Fluttery. If I didn’t know fucking better, I’d describe it as butterflies.
“I’m leavin’ tomorrow,” I say abruptly, holding her gaze.
“Me too.”
