Exclusive Excerpt:

What a colossal waste of time, I thought as I slid my jeans back up and buttoned them. The room was dark as I searched the dingy carpet for my shirt. I knew I tossed it over this way. Finally finding the purple low-cut top I wore out tonight, I pulled it over my head and ran my fingers through my long, dark hair.

"Thanks, Mike," I called over my shoulder. "That was great," I lied.

"It's Matt," he panted.

I mumbled something that could have been an apology and looked over my shoulder at Matt. He was still on his back, trying to catch his breath. A thin coat of sweat covered his chest and his rock-hard abs glistened from the street lamp that shone through his blinds. He really was sexy, especially naked. It was a pity he didn't live up to my expectations.

I gave him a flirty wave and grabbed my purse off the floor before leaving the half-naked guy alone in his room. He grunted a bye to me without bothering to move. At least someone was satisfied. I let myself out of his room, trying to avoid the roommates I knew were in the "party-room", playing beer pong.

"Scarlett!" someone yelled. "Be on my team!"

"No, I'm good," I hollered as I kept walking. I’d had enough to drink and I was sure my hand-eye coordination had decreased since my first few games. In fact, it was probably non-existent by this point.

I weaved through the house, keeping my hand on the wall for balance. I had no idea what I was thinking going to another college party. I knew from my short stint at the University of Cincinnati that the parties held around campus were always the same. There were drunk guys looking to get laid and even drunker girls to take advantage of.

I wasn't one of those girls. No one took advantage of me anymore. I knew when I crawled into a boy's bed that, after a whole twenty minutes of slurred conversation, they would not be calling the next day. In fact, that was the main reason I attended tonight. I had no false assumptions that the guy I bedded would be calling me ever again. This was sex, a release, and nothing more.

I stumbled down the hall and found the bathroom. I slipped inside, locking the door behind me. My reflection stared back at me. My long, dark hair was a tangled mess with streaks of brightly colored hair sticking out everywhere. My eyes were bloodshot and surrounded with heavy makeup and perfectly winged eyeliner. I had a hickey on my collarbone, and my cheeks were flushed pink. I was the definition of a hot mess.

I leaned over a sink that had seen better days and filled my cupped hands with cold water. I splashed my face, hoping to reverse the effects of the tequila shots I took when I first arrived. The walls continued to close in and my reflection stared back, judging.

"Shit," I whispered to myself.

I couldn't drive now, or any time soon for that matter. I pulled out my phone and dialed the one number I knew would save me. It went to voicemail twice before he finally picked up. I heard rustling and grunting before his gruff voice filled my ear.

"What?"

"I need a ride," I said in the sweetest voice I could muster.

"Where are you?" he asked without missing a beat.

"Off campus. I'll text you the address."

"Fuck, Scarlett," he scolded. "That's almost a half hour drive."

"Thank you, Logan," I said before ending the call.

Logan would come for me. He always did.

Shaken Synopsis:

ShakenCover5x8

Scarlett Brooks doesn't need love. The only men she can trust in her life are her twin brother and his two best friends, Logan and Caleb. Every other guy has only let her down, and she promises herself to never to experience heartbreak again.

Logan King can't stand back and watch his best friend's twin sister continue to spiral out of control. With random hookups, drunken nights, and reckless decisions, she is on the path to self-destruction. He sets out to slow her down and prove that she isn't happy with her one-night stands.

The two come dangerously close to crossing lines. Is Scarlett capable of trusting and opening up to love again? Will it ruin their friendship if Logan is the one to teach her how?

This is part of a series but can be read as a standalone. Characters are introduced in Jolted and Impacted.

EXCERPT

With a smile, I turned around, then froze when my sight registered the obscured figure leaning against the wall. A strangled gasp caught in my throat, and my heart took off at a sprint, blood pounding hard in my ears.

Pushing from the wall, he stepped from the shadows, his hands again stuffed deep in his pockets.

My heart rate only increased, the energy radiating from him almost as strong as the disappointment he’d left me with when he’d gone.

I pressed my hand to my chest to try to still the panic thundering against my ribs. “You scared me.”

“I’m sorry.” The words were soft. “That’s the last thing I want to do.”

But he did. I was scared of what he was capable of doing to me, the way I knew he held the power to trounce all over this hammering heart, to hold it in his hand and crush it into a million unrecognizable pieces.

“What are you doing here?” I asked on a shaky breath.

He looked to the sky and exhaled heavily, before he leveled his gaze back on me. “The same thing I’m doing every night, Shea. Thinking about you and wondering why the hell I can’t stop.”

My stomach flipped, and I gulped for air.

“What do you want from me?”

He laughed, lifted his elbows out to his sides in a helpless gesture without pulling his hands free. “Dinner?”

Nonsensical laughter shot from me. “At three in the morning?”

“Breakfast?” he amended, a coy smile pulling at his full, crooked lips.

Tingles spread across my skin, and I ran my hands up my bare arms. “I already told you I don’t have time for distractions.”

“Come on, Shea. It’s just food. Go out with me. Just tonight.”

Somehow I knew it was a lie, even though he wanted to believe it was true.

Nervously, I glanced to the back door all the while being inexplicably drawn to this man I didn’t even know. I knew I should make a break for it, run for the safety of my little world and give him no opportunity to rip it apart.

“I am hungry,” I found myself saying. After a long night of work, it was true. But it had nothing to do with the reason I was giving in.

Because I just wanted to…

I shook my head.

That was it. I just wanted. I wanted to be in his space. I wanted to understand why he had this pull on me. I wanted him.

Even though I’d never allow myself to have him.

REVIEW:

I really struggled with this book.  It took me almost three months to get half way through the book before I finally gave up.  I truly enjoyed the first book in  the series but this one was extremely slow and it was hard to get into.  I loved learning more about the characters from book one but the pacing just seemed off to me.  I definitely look forward to reading more of the Carolina Bad Boys series, this one just didn't read well with me.

EXCERPT
“You get to me and I don’t want to be got at.” Cat slung herself into the chair next to mine.
“I like getting under your skin.” Pulling her chair closer, I pinned her legs between mine. I caressed along her neck until I cupped her face. “If you give us a shot, I guarantee I’ll make it worth your while.”
She slammed her lips against mine. This kiss was volatile and urgent as our tongues fucked against each other. I slipped back for a moment, listening to her jarred breaths. That goddamn ponytail had to go. I freed the elastic as she unbuttoned the shirt I’d thrown on earlier. Playing with the line of hair down my torso led Cat to my jeans. Her palm cupped my hard cock hidden beneath the rough fabric.
Fuck. FUCK!
Straight black sheaths of sweet smelling hair fell to her waist. “Jesus Christ, Cat.”
My fingers spun through the silken strands. When she claimed my mouth once more, that black velvet curtain closed around us. With one hand at the back of her head, the other on her waist, I pulled her into me. The sweet wet pressure of her mouth and tongue made me dizzy. Her gasps and moans were hot as hell.
“Stand up for me,” I ordered.
When she did, I kicked her chair away. She stood between my spread legs. Her pale blue irises were almost eclipsed by her pupils as she gazed down at me.
I skimmed a knuckle along the buttons on the front of her shirt. “Any more ink?”
“Maybe you’ll have to find out.”
I unbuttoned her up-to-the-throat, down-to-the-wrists top. Underneath was a scant black bra, the cups overflowing with mounds of flesh.
I gave her a wicked grin. “I can’t think of anything I’d like to do more than uncover you inch by inch.”
Kissing her stomach, I listened to her gasp. I worked her shirt down her arms, leaving it bunched at the wrists by the cuffs. The flat of my hand moved down the center of her body and back up. When I reached the front clasp of her bra, I gave it a tug. “Can I?”
She inhaled shakily. “Yes.”
I unclasped the hook, and oh holy shit. Her tits burst forth. I rocked back in my seat and stared. “Maybe not any more ink, just these beauties?”
“Nicky,” she whimpered.
That was the best sound on the planet, but it wasn’t to be outdone by the sight right in front of me. I touched the very tip of one nipple, barely holding myself in check. But fuck, I wanted to feast on her with my eyes before I sucked on her with my mouth. Her teardrop-shaped tits were topped by plum-colored nipples. But that wasn’t it, not by a long shot. Cat’s sexy, dusky-colored nipples were fucking pierced. I circled one with my fingertip, then the other. I tucked my finger into the dangling filigree decoration hanging from one piercing and flicked it.
“Nicky,” she groaned, her hands digging into my hair.
I lifted my mouth to her, sucking a hot, pert pearl of flesh into my mouth. Sucking it in, letting it slip out. Nibbling on the jewelry, I tugged with my teeth it until she moaned. And because I was pretty damn sure I’d never get enough of having my face in her tits, I moved to the other one. Licking, tonguing, suckling. Oh yeah. The suckling, she liked that, maybe as much as I was getting off on it. Her moans escalated the longer I held her nipple and jewelry in my mouth, curling my lips around her. Grunting, I moved into the deep valley between. I lapped there too.
I sat back for a moment. Her tits glistened and the color of her peaks was even deeper. Her skin was pink from my face rubbing against her. The piercings swayed with each of her breaths, her hips did too, silently asking for more.
“Sexiest woman I’ve ever seen,” I growled.
I reached up and pulled her face to mine. My lips were rough on hers. She was just as hungry, lashing her tongue into my mouth, rasping it across my teeth and cheeks.
I let her go. I needed more of her breasts. “I’m gonna be here awhile. You don’t mind, do you?”
She quickly shook her head. Her long black hair swished around her back. Her mouth opened, but all that came out was a long low mewl. The sound set my stiff cock right on the edge of release. I swooped down to nuzzle and tease her some more. With my hands clasped at her waist, my thumbs circled her taut belly, which trembled.
I unbuttoned her jeans. “How about this, darlin’? Is this okay?”
Her nails scratched across my scalp, pulling me closer.
I’d take that as a yes.

Phoenix

“Do it,” my father spat. “Or I will.”
I looked at the girl at my feet and back at my father. “No.”
He lifted his hand above my head; I knew what was coming, knew it would hurt like hell but had no way to fight back — he’d already starved me of my food for the past three days for arguing, for trying to save the girl and her cousin.

His fist hit my temple so hard that I fell to the ground with a cry. The click of his boots against the cement gave me the only warning I’d have as he reared back and kicked me in the ribs;
over and over again he kicked. The girl screamed, but I stayed silent.  Screaming didn’t help; nothing did.

I waited until he was done — I prayed that he would kill me this time. I prayed so hard that I was convinced God was finally going to hear me and take me away from my hell. Anything was
better than living. Anything.

“You worthless—” Another kick to the head. “—piece of shit!” A kick to my gut. “You will never be boss, not if you cry every time you must do the hard thing!” Finally, blessed darkness
enveloped my line of vision.
I woke up from the nightmare screaming, not even realizing that I was safe, in my own bed. With a curse I checked the clock.
Three a.m.

Well, at least I’d only had one nightmare — that I’d remembered. I’d been living with Sergio for the past week; his house was so big that I’d basically taken the east wing, and he’d taken the
West, said he’d hated living alone anyway. I wasn’t stupid; I knew the guy wasn’t exactly a big fan, but it worked. I needed to stay in the States while I figured shit out.
And I wasn’t ready to leave. Not when I needed to learn all I could from Nixon. Not when I had responsibility.
And not when I had those black folders freaking burning a hole in my mind.

Luca hadn’t just left me an empire; he’d left me secrets. I wasn’t sure what was worse, knowing everything there was to know about those I was supposed to be protecting or knowing that
at any minute one of them could turn on us.
“Hey!” Bee barged into my room.
“Damn it!” I pulled the blankets over my naked body, my heart picking up speed at her tousled hair and bedroom eyes. Tex’s sister, Tex’s sister. My body wasn’t accepting that — physically it wasn’t accepting any information other than she was beautiful.
And it was dark.
I looked away, scowling.
“I heard screaming.” Bee took a step forward, her perfume floating off her body like an aphrodisiac or drug, making me calm, making me want something I had no business wanting.
“Yeah, well…” I gave her a cold glance. “…clearly I’m fine, so you should go. Actually, why are you here? You know you live with Tex, right?”
She shrugged and sat on my bed. I clenched my fists around the blankets to keep from reaching out to her. It was getting harder and harder to ignore her warmth — when I lived in a constant state of near-death cold.
“He’s with Mo, and they need privacy. I’m not stupid. So I asked Sergio if I could move in for a while.”
“You did what?” I asked in a deadly tone, one I was sure would probably give her nightmares later.
She grinned. “I’m your new roomie!” Bee bounced on the bed and sent me a shy look from beneath her dark lashes. “Admit it, you miss our slumber parties.”
Forget the nightmare — I was looking at it.

An epic tale of revenge and love in a new romantic trilogy
from the New York Times best-selling author of The Beauty Series.

Bleu MacAllister is in hiding less than three months when
Sinclair Breckenridge discovers her whereabouts. Her former lover, the future leader of a criminal organization known as The Fellowship, resists the tug of his heart heartstrings in her direction. Instead, he opts to watch over his beloved from afar. And she has no idea. But Sin's sacrifice is short-lived. His
bonny lass is a hunted traitor. He fears Abram's assassins are closing in, leaving him with one solution for saving Bleu--make her his wife. Marriage seems an easy fix for their dilemma but wedded bliss is brief when the couple finds trouble lying in wait beyond the realm of the brotherhood. Will the original revenge seeker find herself the object of collateral damage?

EXCERPT

I’m in the background of Bleu’s life, as I have been for weeks. I have eyes on her at all times, even when they’re not my own. I safeguard her from harm. It’s all I’ve done since tracking my lass down in a small town in Mississippi, right outside of Memphis. I act as her protector from afar and she has no idea. She believes she’s hidden from The Fellowship—and me—but she couldn’t be more wrong. I’m always here, keeping a watchful eye on her and the MacAllister family.
I often need to be reminded that this is Bleu’s world. Every person she has contact with isn’t a threat but there’s an enormous problem with that. I have no idea who’s friend or foe.
I was concerned when Bleu disappeared at the bar with a man earlier tonight. I was on the verge of barging into the back until my lass came out on stage to perform with the band. I don’t think I’ve ever been so surprised in all my life. I knew she played but I never pegged her for a public performer. That doesn’t seem like my Bonny at all.
But I guess I don’t really know the real Bleu MacAllister. I only know the woman she pretended to be.

Bleu MacAllister is consumed. A horrific childhood incident has caused every

decision in her life to revolve around bringing a monster to justice. With
years spent studying The Fellowship, an organized crime brotherhood of liars,
thieves, and killers, Bleu will rely on her skills as a special agent to cut
Thane Breckenridge off at the knees. But walking hand in hand with retribution means risking collateral damage, in the form of Breckenridge’s son
Sinclair—until Sin becomes so much more than Bleu bargained for. She’s always known this undertaking would place her life in danger—she never imagined her heart would be as well.
